Croatia flew out to Sofia today from Zagreb minus Lovren, who was forced to withdraw from the side due to a abdominal injury. The centre-back felt pain in his abdomen during Wednesday’s training session, and after a check up from the medical team, Lovren was ruled out for the matches against Bulgaria on Friday, and Azerbaijan next week.

Coach Niko Kovač has called up defender Gordon Schildenfeld, who joined the squad last night.
