Croatia has received its own first-ever image from space, marking a significant milestone in the country’s technological development.
The first Croatian satellite, CroCube, which was launched on 21 December 2024, has successfully captured and transmitted its first images back to Earth, CroCube has said in a statement.
This historic image was taken on 28 January 2025 at 08:16 Croatian time, showing Croatia along with parts of Italy and Slovenia.
While much of the region was covered by clouds, the outlines of land and mountain ranges can still be distinguished.
Such weather conditions are typical for winter, as the atmosphere tends to be saturated with moisture during this time of year, leading to increased cloud cover and reduced visibility from orbit.
Despite these challenges, CroCube has proven its capability in carrying out its mission.
More Images to Come – CroCube Continues to Send Data
In addition to the first image of Croatia, CroCube has also transmitted a second image clearly showing Bulgaria and the city of Burgas. This is just the beginning – new images will be regularly updated to document the progress and success of Croatia’s first satellite.
Soon, the public will be able to track these images via a mobile app, where new data and visuals from space will be published regularly.
About CroCube
CroCube is a nanosatellite measuring just 10 x 10 x 10 cm and weighing 1.1 kg. Orbiting at an altitude of 510 km, it will continue to capture images of Earth and conduct scientific measurements over the next two years.

The primary goal of the project is to drive technological development in Croatia, increase public interest in astronomy and space exploration, and support advancements in STEM sciences and high-tech entrepreneurship.
A secondary objective is to collect data using the Croatian-made scientific module, Astrotron 1000, which is embedded within CroCube.
CroCube represents a major step forward for Croatia’s presence in space, and its journey is just getting started.
