16-year-old Croatian Petra Marčinko is the new world no.1 junior girls tennis player and the ITF 2021 World Champion, the International Tennis Federation announced on Tuesday.

Marčinko has had an impressive 2021, which was capped off last weekend by double success at the famous Orange Bowl International Tennis Championships in Florida.

The Zagreb teen won the U18 singles and doubles title at the most famous and biggest junior tournament in the world. In the singles final she would beat world no. 7 Diana Shnaider from Russia, 3:6, 6:1, 6:3. She then teamed up with Shnaider to win the doubles title.

Marčinko is now the second Croatian to win the singles U18 girls Orange Bowl title after Ana Konjuh won it back in 2012. It was also her second ITF A ranked title after she won a title in Cape Town in October.

The victory in Florida at the Orange Bowl also helped Marčinko jump 9 places to no.1 in the ITF world rankings for junior girls. She makes history history as Croatia’s first junior ITF World Champion.
