Croatian tennis player Mirjana Lučić-Baroni has beaten America’s Jennifer Brady today to advance through to the Australian Open quarter-final.

The 34-year-old won in straight sets 6-4 6-2 to make the last eight of a Grand Slam for the first time in 18 years when she lost to Steffi Graf in the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 1999.

“I hope nobody is going to pinch me and wake me up. I am a tough little cookie and really stubborn. When I want something I will work hard and do anything I need to get it. What a satisfaction”, the Croatian said after her win.

Lučić-Baroni, who is ranked 79th in the world, was a former Australian and US Open junior winner and made her Grand Slam debut as a 15-year-old at the US Open. She won the Australian Open doubles title with Martina Hingis in 1998.
