Croatia’s Kvesić brothers win medals at European karate championship

ZAGREB, March 31 (Hina) – Brothers Anđelo and Ivan Kvesic, who are members of the Croatian national karate team, have both won bronze medals at the European Championship taking place in Guadalajara, Spain. 

Ivan Kvesic, the current world champion and European vice-champion in the category under 84 kilograms, won the bronze by beating Farouk Abdesselem of France, while his brother Anđelo, who competes in the over-84kg category, defeated Gogita Arkania of Georgia. 

The brothers, who won medals within 20 minutes of each other at the championship, said they celebrated the double success by going for pizza.

Meanwhile, the Croatian team ((Ivan & Anđelo Kvesić, Enes Garibović, Zvonimir Živković, Ivan Martinac, Ante Mrvičić, Stjepan Štimac) won the bronze medal in the team event at the championships.

Ivan became the third karate world champion from Croatia when he won gold at the world championships in Madrid, Spain in November. 

The brothers, who fight out of the Hercegovina Zagreb club, are expected to be a medal hopes for Croatia at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo when the sport makes it debut.
