Croatia’s Anđelo Kvesić and Lucija Lesjak win medals at World Karate Championships in Dubai

Croatia’s Anđelo Kvesić and Lucija Lesjak have both won bronze medals at the world karate championships in Dubai.

Croatia’s Anđelo Kvesić and Lucija Lesjak have both won bronze medals at the World Karate Championships in Dubai on Saturday.

Lesjak defeated Martina Sachova from the Czech Republic 3-2 to win bronze in the women’s +68 kg category. The medal was Lesjak’s first at a major tournament.  

“I am happy and satisfied, but I think I need more time for this to sink in. On the other hand, I believe I can do more,” Lesjak told the Croatian Karate Union. 

Meanwhile, Anđelo Kvesić won his second medal at a world championships.  

Kvesić beat Babakara Sackho Seka from Spain 5-0 in the bronze medal match to claim bronze in the +84 kg category. 

“Again I succeeded in winning a medal at the world championships, which I really wanted and worked so hard for,” Kvesić said.

Anđelo’s bother Ivan lost in his bronze medal match. 

“Everytime it was close, now i believe that the effort pays off at the end of the year. I am 5th, that is not a bad result. I did not win but I go on,” he said. 

Almost 1,000 participants are taking part from 105 countries at the world champs in Dubai.
