Croatia’s Anđelo Kvesić and Lucija Lesjak have both won bronze medals at the World Karate Championships in Dubai on Saturday.
Lesjak defeated Martina Sachova from the Czech Republic 3-2 to win bronze in the women’s +68 kg category. The medal was Lesjak’s first at a major tournament.
“I am happy and satisfied, but I think I need more time for this to sink in. On the other hand, I believe I can do more,” Lesjak told the Croatian Karate Union.
Meanwhile, Anđelo Kvesić won his second medal at a world championships.
Kvesić beat Babakara Sackho Seka from Spain 5-0 in the bronze medal match to claim bronze in the +84 kg category.
“Again I succeeded in winning a medal at the world championships, which I really wanted and worked so hard for,” Kvesić said.
Anđelo’s bother Ivan lost in his bronze medal match.
“Everytime it was close, now i believe that the effort pays off at the end of the year. I am 5th, that is not a bad result. I did not win but I go on,” he said.
Almost 1,000 participants are taking part from 105 countries at the world champs in Dubai.
