Croatian swimmer Duje Draganja inducted into Cal Athletic Hall of Fame

ZAGREB, Oct 29 (Hina) – Croatia’s all-time best swimmer, Duje Draganja, was officially inducted into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame of California’s Berkeley university at a ceremony in Oakland on Saturday, and in the evening he was introduced to 60,000 spectators at a college football game at California Memorial Stadium.

Draganja won the silver medal in men’s 50 metres freestyle race at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece with a time of 21.94, the sixth-best time ever.

For Berkeley, he won eight NCAA National championships, 12 conference titles and his time in the men’s 50 m freestyle is the fastest in the university’s history.

Draganja was born in Split in 1983. He also competed in the Olympics in Sydney in 2000 and Beijing in 2008.

In European and world championships between 2006 and 2009, he won two golds and four silvers.
