6 September 2021 – The most prestigious international award in the field of design – Red Dot is again in the hands of Croatian studio Tumpić/Prenc.
In the category of packaging design, the Rovinj-based studio was awarded the Red Dot for its label of Vina Šuran, a winery whose work is based on the principle of biodynamic agriculture.
Biodynamic wines are obtained from grapes that have not been treated with any chemicals, herbicides and pesticides but only with special natural preparations.
The idea of the Tumpić/Prenc Studio label relies on this most important characteristic of soil enrichment with natural preparations that significantly increase the microbiological activity of the soil. That is why the microbiological activity is presented on the label through the presentation of soil layers.
The microorganisms in this solution are the letters from a quote by Italian scientist and activist Carlo Petrini calling for environmental awareness, criticising mass food production.
The text on the label is minimised and invisible to the naked eye. But the consumer is offered a magnifying glass integrated into the lid of a specially designed box in which the bottle is packaged. Thus, the lid of the box instantly becomes a simple tool that invites the consumer to interact and turns him into a curious researcher who discovers the exciting and hidden values of biodynamic cultivation.
This work of Studio Tumpić/Prenc has already been recognised and won awards at competitions such as the European Design Award and Idea X.
“The Red Dot Award means a lot to us because our work has now received recognition not only at Croatian and European festivals but also worldwide. In addition to giving us recognition as designers, we believe that such awards also help the manufacturers we work for. As biodynamic agriculture is not a very well-known process, we wanted to promote the product so that people can see the exciting and hidden values of this technique in front of their eyes,” said Anselmo Tumpić, creative director of the studio.
This year 24 jury members selected the best among more than 20,000 works registered.
“Never has so many companies and agencies come before our international jury. The fact that you stood out in such a wide competition speaks of the exceptional quality of your project,” said Peter Zec, director of Red Dot.
The award ceremony will take place on November 12, and the awarded projects will be presented on the organisers’ website and in the printed yearbook.
