Croatian striker Ante Rebić breaks German Bundesliga record

6 February 2019 – Croatian striker Ante Rebić had broken a German Bundesliga record. 

The 25-year-old set a league record for reaching the fastest speed during Eintracht Frankfurt’s match against Borussia Dortmund. 

Rebić, who played a big part in Croatia’s run at last summer’s World Cup in Russia, was clocked at one stage during the match sprinting at 35.11 km/h. This is the the fastest anyone has been clocked at in the Bundesliga. 

The previous record was 35.10 km/h held by Achraf Hakimi, who was on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Real Madrid at the time, net.hr reports. 

Rebić was the third fastest player at the 2018 World Cup when he was clocked at 33.30 km/h against Nigeria in the opening match. Cristiano Ronaldo was clocked the fastest at 33.98 km/h followed by Luis Advincula from Peru in second place at 33.77 km/h.

Rebić started his senior career at RNK Split before joining Italian club Fiorentina in 2013 . He has spent most of his time on loan and joined Eintracht Frankfurt permanently in July 2018 and has scored 7 goals and 15 assists since the permanent move. 

He made his Croatia debut in 2013 and has played 26 games for his country, scoring two goals, including the opener in Croatia’s 3-0 win over Argentina at the 2018 World Cup.
