Croatian Schooling To Increase By 1 Year

From 2013 it will be obligatory in Croatia to complete 9 years of schooling, one more than the current 8 years, announced Minister of Education Zeljko Jovanovic.

The extra school year will not be in primary or secondary school, but pre-school (year before first grade) will become compulsory. Minister Jovanovic says that the extra year will increase the overall quality of children’s education.

The Minister also spoke about his concerns with the growing number of pre-school children with learning disabilities. “In 2005/2006 there were 3 percent of these types of kids in school, in 2012/2013, there is now six percent,” said Jovanovic.
