Croatian Post resumes goods shipments to USA under new customs payment system

ZAGREB, 8 June 2026 – Hrvatska pošta (Croatian Post) has resumed the sending of goods in postal shipments to the United States in cooperation with its authorised partner, ZONOS, following changes to US import rules requiring customs duties and taxes to be paid in advance.

The change comes after an Executive Order issued by the President of the United States, which removes the previous “de minimis” exemption for goods in postal parcels valued under 800 US dollars.

As a result, all applicable customs duties and taxes must now be settled before shipments arrive in the United States.

Under the new temporary arrangement, Croatian Post has introduced a system in partnership with ZONOS allowing customers to pre-pay duties and taxes via the ZONOS application before parcels are accepted for shipment to the US.

The updated procedure applies to all goods sent in postal parcels, including items declared as gifts.

However, it does not apply to shipments containing documents or written correspondence, which continue to be processed and dispatched under the existing standard procedure.

To comply with the new requirements, senders must download the ZONOS application, create a free account, enter the required details about the contents of the parcel, and pay the calculated customs duties and taxes through the platform.

The parcel must then be handed over to Croatian Post together with a ZONOS declaration confirming payment of all required charges.

Detailed instructions for registering goods and completing payments are available on the official website of Croatian Post.

Croatian Post also reminded customers that senders are fully responsible for the contents of their parcels, accurate completion of customs declaration forms (CN23), and proper declaration of goods. The postal operator stated it cannot be held responsible for customs declarations or influence decisions made by customs authorities in the destination country, in this case the United States.
