ZAGREB, 2 July (Hina) – The Croatian passport has been ranked 8th among the world’s 20 most powerful passports for 2026 in the newly published Henley Passport Q2 Index, which assesses 199 passports based on visa-free travel access, Conde Nast Traveller reported.

Under the title “How powerful is your passport?”, the global travel magazine published the latest 2026 ranking, the Henley Passport Q2 Index, released on 1 July and compiled by consultancy Henley & Partners, which it describes as the most frequently cited passport ranking.

The list is based on exclusive and official data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), with the key factor in determining passport “power” being the number of countries accessible without a visa.

Croatia shares 8th place in the ranking with Estonia, as holders of both passports can travel visa-free to 182 countries.

Singapore retained first place in 2026, with its passport allowing visa-free travel to 192 of 227 destinations worldwide, giving its holders the greatest level of global travel access.

Second place is shared by Japan, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates (which rose from eighth to joint second), with visa-free access to 188 countries.

Sweden follows in third place with access to 187 countries, while fourth place is shared by a group of countries whose passports allow visa-free travel to 186 destinations: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and Spain.

Austria, Greece, Malta, Portugal and Switzerland share fifth place, with visa-free access to 185 countries. The United Kingdom is in sixth place, alongside Hungary and Poland, with access to 184 countries.

Ahead of Croatia and Estonia, seventh place is shared by Australia, Canada, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Malaysia, New Zealand, Slovakia and Slovenia, whose passports allow access to 183 countries. In ninth place are Liechtenstein and Lithuania, with visa-free access to 181 destinations.

Citizens of Iceland and the United States can travel visa-free to 180 countries, placing them in 10th position, followed by Bulgaria and Romania (178), Monaco (177), Chile and Cyprus (175), Hong Kong (174) and Andorra (170).

Among the 20 most powerful passports, the lowest-ranked include Argentina and Brazil (169 visa-free destinations), San Marino (167), Israel (168), Brunei (164) and Barbados (163).
