ZAGREB, 8 March (Hina) – The Croatian parliament on Friday backed the government’s proposal to declare the final week of May “Croats Abroad Week”, so each year numerous events will be organised in cooperation with Croatian diaspora organisations and with state, public, cultural, and other institutions.
The government explained that the aim of the week was to increase the visibility of Croats living abroad in the Croatian public sphere, strengthen their national identity, encourage closer mutual connections, and reinforce ties among Croats worldwide, highlighting their belonging to a single, indivisible Croatian nation and promoting global Croatian unity.
As of this year, in the final week of May, when Croatia marks Statehood Day, various events will take place in Zagreb and the county, and a session of the Croatian government’s Advisory Council for Croats Abroad will also be held.
Through their heritage and contemporary achievements, Croats from Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of Croatian national minorities in 12 European countries, and the wider Croatian diaspora will present themselves to the Croatian public.
