ZAGREB, 16 March (Hina) – Croatia’s silver medalist from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Filip Ude, will be the ambassador of the European Region of Sport, a title to be held by Međimurje County in 2022, a press conference heard in the northern town of Nedelišće on Tuesday.

County head Matija Posavec said Ude, who hails from Međimurje, was one of the best Croatian gymnasts, winner of medals at the Olympics, world and European championships and the Mediterranean Games.

Međimurje is the first region in Croatia to hold the title of the European Region of Sport.

“We intend to make the most of it to promote Međimurje as a sports region, a region of natural attractions, rich cultural heritage, and hard-working people who create new value,” said Posavec.

In the coming period the county authorities plan to organise a number of activities aimed at promoting amateur sports as well as upgrading local sports infrastructure to create better conditions for everyone involved in sports.
