ZAGREB, 4 Nov (Hina) – A new venue of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb – HNK2, located in Božidar Adžija Street, was officially inaugurated on Monday with a contemporary interpretation of the programme that marked the opening of the HNK building in 1895.
In the year marking 130 years since the grand opening of the HNK building in Zagreb, the theatre also opened the doors of its new, modern venue, HNK2.
“The new theatre will be home to Drama, Opera, and Ballet, and will evoke the brilliant and glorious past of our artists, as well as Croatian culture, language and identity,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, who attended the ceremony.

Culture and Media Minister Nina Obuljen Koržinek emphasised that in an era dominated by digital content, opportunities for discussion about theatre and the arts are increasingly limited.

Nevertheless, she noted, there is still a large number of people in Zagreb who believe in the power and importance of culture.
Zagreb Mayor Tomislav Tomašević said that the second HNK venue is important not only for the city’s cultural policy but also for the city administration, as it represents a significant step in the revitalisation of the city’s Trešnjevka district.
