Croatian cinemas have recorded their strongest start to a year in history, with domestic films drawing the majority of audiences during the first quarter of 2026.

Between 1 January and 1 April 2026, cinemas across Croatia welcomed 1,577,352 viewers, making it the most successful first quarter ever recorded. The figure represents a 27.62% increase compared with the previous record set in 2018, and an impressive 78.59% rise compared with the same period last year.

A major driver behind the surge in attendance has been the remarkable performance of Croatian productions.

Domestic films attracted 856,614 viewers, accounting for 54.31% of total cinema audiences during the period, a significant milestone for the national film industry.

Leading the charge is the Croatian comedy “Svadba”, directed by Igor Šeregi. Produced by Eclectica and distributed by Duplicato Media, the film has proven to be an extraordinary success.

By 1 April, Svadba had drawn 780,779 cinema-goers, making it not only the most watched film of 2026 so far but also the most viewed film in Croatian cinema history.

The scale of its success is evident when compared with the next most watched film in Croatian cinemas this year – “Avatar: Fire and Ash”, which has attracted 58,812 viewers since its release on 18 December. Svadba premiered later, on 20 January, yet quickly overtook all competitors.

Another Croatian title performing strongly is the children’s adventure film “Glavonja”, directed by Marina Andree Škop and Vanda Raýmanová.

Produced by Pom Pom Film and also distributed by Duplicato Media, the film has attracted 54,183 viewers, making it one of the most popular domestic releases of the year.
