The Croatian comedy film Svadba, directed by Igor Šeregi, has officially become the most watched film in the history of Croatian cinemas, surpassing a long-standing record held by Titanic.

According to data published by boxoffice.hr, Svadba has been seen by 522,106 cinemagoers in Croatia, overtaking Titanic, which previously held the record with 495,000 viewers.

The film’s success extends well beyond national borders. Across the wider region, including Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Slovenia, Svadba has now attracted more than one million viewers, a rare feat in regional theatrical distribution, the Croatian Audiovisual Center said.

A special celebration of the milestone took place in Split, at CineStar 4DX Mall of Split, where the film’s one-millionth regional viewer was officially recorded.

CineStar Cinemas Croatia marked the occasion by awarding the lucky audience member with a commemorative gift.

When Croatian box office figures are combined with results from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the film has been watched by 202,063 viewers, Svadba reaches a total of 724,169 admissions in just two countries, a number seldom seen in regional cinema.

The extraordinary audience response highlights the continued power of locally produced stories to resonate across borders, particularly when they centre on universal human emotions.

Reflecting on the film’s impact, director Igor Šeregi emphasised the message that has clearly struck a chord with audiences:

“This film has shown that despite all our differences, nationalities and problems, love always wins. Thank you to everyone who watched the film, recommended it, promoted it and left the cinema happier.”

Audience interest has also been fuelled by a strong ensemble cast featuring some of the most prominent names from Croatian and regional film and television.

The cast includes Rene Bitorajac, Dragan Bjelogrlić, Linda Begonja, Vesna Trivalić, Anđelka Stević Žugić, Roko Sikavica, Nika Grbelja and Marko Grabež, alongside acclaimed actors Seka Sablić, Srđan Žika Todorović, Snježana Sinovčić Šiškov and Dejan Aćimović.

They are joined by a wider group of well-known performers, including Goran Grgić, Janko Popović Volarić, Marko Miljković, Denis Murić and Nevena Nerandžić.

Sound design was handled by Ivan Zelić, with Jana Piacun as production designer, Paula Čule as costume designer and Snježana Gorup responsible for make-up.
