There are few things more heartwarming than the scent of home-cooked food, the laughter of children, and the joyful hum of community gathering.
All of this—and more—came to life on Thursday, April 10th, 2025, as the Croatian Cultural Association of Geelong hosted a vibrant and enriching Traditional Easter Cooking Class at the Croatian Community Centre in Geelong.
More than 70 adults and 35 children gathered under one roof for an evening that blended culinary heritage, childhood wonder, and cultural pride.

The event was a tapestry of flavours, traditions, and hands-on learning, offering participants a beautiful glimpse into the spirit of a Croatian Easter.
The evening began with a warm and heartfelt presentation by Lily Krstičević, who invited everyone into her family’s Easter traditions. She shared the art of decorating pisanice, the iconic Croatian Easter eggs, using age-old techniques with wax and vibrant colours.

Children eagerly joined in, guided by Lily’s patient hands and gentle storytelling, transforming simple eggs into little works of art that reflected both tradition and creativity.
The culinary journey continued with Robert Pavlić, who presented two treasured recipes for štruklifrom the Karlovac region. Guests were treated to both štrukli na juhu (in soup) and štrukli u pećnici(oven-baked), each bite filled with warmth and history.

The aromas drifting from the kitchen wrapped around the room like a comforting embrace.
Adding a touch of elegance and charm, Maria Prusac introduced her business Enjoy the Moment, and demonstrated how to beautifully decorate an Easter picnic table.

Her eye for detail and passion for celebration reminded all present that tradition lives not only in food, but in the way we gather and share.
Meanwhile, the children were immersed in fun and educational activities. Katica Perinac taught them a delightful Easter chant and a song with dance, filling the space with music and laughter.
