Croatian culture minister says festivals won’t be cancelled, programmes to be adapted

ZAGREB, May 5 (Hina) – Croatia’s Culture Minister Nina Obuljen Korzinek has held a video conference with leaders of national festivals from the field of performing arts, at which it was concluded that cancellation of festivals was not being planned and those festivals would adapt their programmes to the current situation caused by COVID-19.

The ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that festival programmes would be adapted to hire Croatian artists who have been out of work for some time due to restrictions imposed due to the coronavirus crisis.

Smaller productions or visits will be encouraged taking into account general epidemiological guidelines, and emphasis will be put on outdoor programmes and on adapting seating to make it comply with epidemiological instructions.

It was agreed at the meeting that by the end of May the festival managements would submit to the ministry proposals for the adaptation of their programmes, with the related costs.
