Croatian cuisine named among top 20 in the world

The results are in for the 2025 TasteAtlas Awards, and Italy has once again claimed the top spot as the world’s best cuisine. 

The global food platform, TasteAtlas, announced this year’s winners based on 590,228 votes from travellers and food enthusiasts worldwide.

TasteAtlas, which catalogues 18,912 dishes, ingredients, and beverages from around the world, aims to celebrate traditional foods, promote local culinary excellence, and spark curiosity about international cuisines.

Top Cuisines

Italy leads the rankings and in No.1 with an average score of 4.64, followed closely by Greece (4.60), Peru (4.54), Portugal (4.54), and Spain (4.53).

Croatia placed 18th in the world with a score of 4.35.

Among Croatia’s most celebrated dishes are peka, pašticada, punjena paprika, Zagorje mlinci, Pag lamb, grilled fish (gradele), čobanac, and Istrian pasta (fuži).

Top Dishes in the World

The awards also highlight individual dishes, with Paraguay’s vori-vori taking the top spot (4.64).

Italy is well represented with Pizza Napoletana (4.58) and Tajarin al tartufo bianco d’Alba (4.52). Other top dishes include Indonesia’s sate kambing (4.52) and Turkey’s cağ kebabı (4.51).

Food Cities Recognised

Italian cities dominate the list of the world’s best food destinations. Naples and Milan both scored 4.99, followed by Bologna (4.98) and Florence (4.89). Mumbai, India, rounds out the top five with a score of 4.78.

Croatian cities to make the list were Split (74) and Zagreb (87).

TasteAtlas awards are not merely a popularity contest. Each cuisine or region’s average rating is determined by the scores of its 30 to 50 best-rated dishes.

Advanced algorithms are used to eliminate bot activity and biased voting patterns, ensuring the results reflect genuine culinary quality.

The awards aim to promote local food traditions, instil pride in national dishes, and introduce global audiences to exceptional but sometimes lesser-known culinary treasures.
