Croatian bronze medal from 1998 World Cup goes on sale on auction site

One of the bronze medals from Croatia’s third-place finish at the 1998 World Cup in France has gone on sale online. 

UK auction house The Saleroom have listed an original bronze medal from the 1998 World Cup which was award to the 30-strong Croatian football team and management. 

The auction house confirms that the medal, which still has the ribbon attached, is an original. 

“World Cup 1998 France. Winner medal Croatia – Official winner medal of the Croatia team for coming third at the World Cup in France 1998. “Coupe du monde de la FIFA France 1998”. Bronze on original tricolor silk ribbon. Manufacturer Bertoni. 5 cm. There were only 30 copies of this medal. Absolutely rare, extra fine,” writes The Saleroom about the medal which is listed in Lot 377. 

The Saleroom, which specialises in art and antique auctions, has estimated the value of the medal at €7,500.

Croatia’s bronze-medal team from 1998 were: Dražen Ladić, Petar Krpan, Anthony Šerić, Igor Štimac, Goran Jurić, Slaven Bilić, Aljoša Asanović, Robert Prosinečki, Davor Šuker, Zvonimir Boban, Silvio Marić, Marjan Mrmić, Mario Stanić, Igor Tudor, Ardian Kozniku, Robert Jarni, Zoran Mamić, Goran Vlaović, Dario Šimić, Krunoslav Jurčić and Vladimir Vasilj. Coach Miroslav Ćiro Blažević and six members of management were also awarded medals, daily 24sata writes.
