Croatian boxer Luka Pratljačić wins medal at European Champs

18 March 2019 – Croatian super heavyweight Luka Pratljačić has won the bronze medal at the European under-23 boxing championships in Russia which ended on Sunday. 

The big prospect from Osijek in Croatia confirmed his status as one of the best young boxers in Europe with an impresssive performance at the championships in Vladikavkaz which saw 400 boxers from 38 countries compete. 

In his first bout, Pratljačić convincingly beat Dašo Simeunović from Bosnia and Herzegovina. Simeunović, who was a quarterfinalist at the last world championships and the winner of a number of international tournaments, lost on a unanimous points decision to the Croatian.

Pratljačić then beat Italy’s Salvatorea Scala with a first round knockout to qualify for the semi-final but would go down to Azerbaijan’s Abdulkadir Abdullayev on points after winning the first round.

Along with Pratljačić, Croatia was also represented at the championships by Filip Poturović (60 kg), Erik Pijetraj (64kg), Mihael Jugović (69 kg), Mladen Sobjeslavski (75 kg) and Matej Uremović (81 kg).
