About the Artist

Dario

The emotive paintings of Croatian artist Dario Vukorepa hearken back to the classic landscape paintings of the Barbizon school and the Dutch Masters. However, it is not the outer world, but the spiritual one that Vukorepa seeks to represent. Each of Vukorepa’s paintings explore humanity’s inner wealth, transforming it into rich landscapes with atmospheres that appear both beautiful to moody. In order to achieve this, Vukorepa uses painting as a meditative act, immersing himself in a world of contemplation and stillness. “There is nothing around me, even me. Then, only the soul sees the real truth of things.” He prefers working with oils for this very reason: their transparency, fluidity, soft color gradations, and high gloss effect are ideal for revealing these inner emotions in a metaphorical way.

In addition to painting, Vukorepa trained as a sculptor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy, and has had the opportunity to design several movie and television sets, including some used in Game of Thrones. What makes Vukorepa’s artwork unique is the way it expresses the love he holds deep in his heart.

About the Exhibition

The World Behind the Figure: The Manifestation of Milieu

So often, art exhibitions focus on the form of the individual, either abstractly or figuratively. In the exhibition The Manifestation of Milieu, sixteen artists look beyond the individual and at the world around. Exploring context, both environmental and temporal, these artists question the form in how it may interact with its surroundings. Whether in harmonious landscapes or tumultuous abstracts, in elemental colors or stark simplicity, these artists manipulate their media in order to investigate the importance of environment, the concept of contexts, the manifestation of milieu.
