Croatian-American sports and entertainment publicist Michael Misetic has signed on to co-write the screenplay for a new feature film centered on one of the most iconic moments in American sports history – the “Immaculate Reception.”

Regarded by many as the single greatest play in NFL history, the “Immaculate Reception” took place on December 23, 1972, during a playoff game between the rival Pittsburgh Steelers and the Oakland Raiders.

In a heart-stopping sequence of events, Steelers running back Franco Harris caught a deflected pass just inches above the turf and ran it in for a game-winning touchdown with just 22 seconds left on the clock.

Harris’s touchdown turned a 7-6 deficit into a 13-7 victory and officially launched the Steelers dynasty of the 1970s.

But what happened after the play is just as astonishing – and that’s the story Misetic will share with audiences.

The film will specifically center around Jim Baker, a former insurance salesman from West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, who attended the legendary game – and walked away with the football.

Moments after the touchdown, Baker and his 14-year-old nephew raced down from their seats, across the field, and positioned themselves behind the goal post in anticipation of the extra point.

There was no netting behind the goal posts in those days, so when the ball sailed through the uprights, Baker managed to retrieve it amid the ensuing chaos. He quickly concealed the ball under his nephew’s coat as they tore through the crowd and exited the stadium.

Despite receiving substantial offers, Baker has consistently refused to sell the ball because of its profound emotional significance, particularly its connection to his late son, Sam.

Sam was born just four days before the historic play in 1972 and tragically passed away in 2005 from a rare form of cancer. For Baker, the ball symbolizes not only a living piece of American sports mythology but also serves as a cherished link to his son’s memory.

“When I first heard the story of Jim Baker – how he not only witnessed one of the most iconic plays in NFL history but also walked away with the ball – I knew we had to tell this part of the tale,” said Misetic.

“It’s a narrative about chance, choice, and the unexpected intersections of fandom and fate. Writing this screenplay isn’t just about capturing a moment in sports; it’s about exploring the human side of history and the personal journeys that intertwine with it.”
