Croatia will not join the Board of Peace

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has stated that the Government’s position is that Croatia would not, at this moment, join the Board of Peace, following an invitation for the country to take part in the initiative.

“What I can say is that the position of the Government and the position of the parliamentary majority is that at this moment Croatia would not join the Board of Peace for a number of reasons, after thorough analysis,”said Plenković.

President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović has also said in a statement that Croatia should not take part.

President Milanović discussed the matter by telephone on Monday with Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, outlining his position, which he had already expressed publicly earlier in the day.

According to the President, the initiative, launched by United States President Donald Trump, is legally grounded in a resolution of the United Nations Security Council.

While welcoming any initiative that contributes to peace, particularly in the Middle East, President Milanović stressed that Croatia should not participate in the Board of Peace.

Despite acknowledging the importance of peace initiatives, President Milanović emphasised that Croatia must carefully consider its role and responsibilities in international bodies, particularly those connected to sensitive geopolitical regions.
