Croatia Weather: Temperatures to plunge by 10°C as heavy rain arrives

ZAGREB, 3 September 2026 – After another spell of summer heat, Croatia is set for a significant change in weather next week, with temperatures forecast to fall by more than 10°C and heavy rain expected across the country.

Sunny and hot conditions will continue across Croatia over the next few days. Temperatures are expected to reach between 31°C and 34°C across much of the country on Friday and Saturday.

A brief easing of the heat is possible inland on Sunday, before warmer conditions return at the start of next week. On Tuesday, temperatures are still expected to reach around 25°C to 30°C in much of Croatia, with only isolated showers forecast.

According to forecasts from the Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ), a rapid change is expected on Wednesday, 9 September as a new weather system moves across the country.

Forecast models indicate widespread rain, with particularly heavy rainfall possible in parts of the interior and northern Adriatic. Temperatures in those areas could fall by around 10°C compared with the beginning of the week.

In Zagreb, temperatures of up to around 29°C early next week could give way to a maximum of approximately 21°C on Wednesday, accompanied by heavy rain and more than 22 mm of precipitation in some forecasts. Cooler conditions are expected to follow on Thursday.

The change could be even more pronounced around Rijeka, where forecasts indicate up to 70 mm of rain on Wednesday. The daytime temperature could fall from around 30°C to 23°C, while Thursday morning could bring temperatures of around 13°C.

The forecast represents a marked break from the prolonged summer conditions experienced across Croatia in recent weeks.

While conditions will remain warm for several more days, the middle of next week is currently expected to bring the first substantial taste of cooler, more unsettled weather.
