The Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has today issued a formal recommendation advising Croatian citizens against travelling to Serbia.
The Ministry is urging all citizens to postpone any non-essential travel and to exercise increased caution.
“It is recommended to postpone all non-essential travel, exercise increased caution, monitor the current situation and obtain more detailed information before traveling, especially in light of the recorded inappropriate and unfounded actions of Serbian authorities towards Croatian citizens,” the Ministry said.
Serbia is facing ongoing anti-government protests, sparked by the November 2024 collapse of a railway station canopy in Novi Sad, which killed 16 people.
The Ministry also highlighted that frequent and unpredictable road closures caused by civil protests in Serbia are affecting traffic conditions across the country.
This makes it extremely difficult to anticipate disruptions or delays, which could significantly impact travel plans.
Citizens are particularly advised to avoid large public gatherings or demonstrations, which may pose additional safety risks.
In the event of an emergency or urgent situation outside of regular working hours, Croatian nationals in Serbia are encouraged to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Croatia in Belgrade via the emergency line at 0038163485757.
The Ministry continues to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as needed.
