Croatia Walking Festival to follow the Paths of Tesla and Starčević in Lika

GOSPIĆ, 12 August 2026 – Gospić will once again bring together walkers, nature lovers and visitors looking for an active way to explore Lika when the Croatia Walking Festival takes place on 5 and 6 September.

The two-day event will offer two different routes, with Saturday dedicated to the Paths of Nikola Tesla and Sunday to the Paths of Ante Starčević, connecting walking with the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

Participants can choose between routes of 10+, 20+ and 30+ kilometres, making the festival suitable for recreational walkers, families and more experienced participants.

Rather than focusing on competition, the festival is designed around personal goals, spending time outdoors, socialising and discovering Lika at a slower pace. The routes also highlight the connection between the region and two prominent figures born in Lika – inventor Nikola Tesla and Croatian politician and writer Ante Starčević.

“By connecting walking, nature and our heritage, we want to offer visitors an authentic experience of the destination and an additional reason to visit Lika-Senj County,” said Ivan Radošević, director of the Lika-Senj County Tourist Board.

This year’s festival will also feature Mario Valentić, a well-known promoter of healthy and active lifestyles, who will join participants during the weekend.

Organisers say the event is part of efforts to promote active tourism in Lika, combining outdoor recreation with the region’s cultural heritage.
