Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković has responded to an invitation from United States President Donald Trump for Croatia to join a newly announced international initiative known as the “Board of Peace”, stressing that the government values the proposal but is currently reviewing its legal and political implications.
President Trump unveiled the initiative today during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, describing it as a body aimed at rebuilding Gaza and addressing major global conflicts.
Trump stated that the board should work alongside the United Nations, despite reiterating his criticism of the organisation.
In a statement published on social media platform X, Prime Minister Plenković said Croatia highly appreciates the invitation, but underlined that a thorough assessment is underway.
“I highly appreciate the invitation extended by @POTUS to join the Board of Peace. Supporting and advancing the historic peace process in the Middle East remains one of the most important and noble objectives we share with the United States and the broader international community.
In this spirit, the Croatian Government is currently assessing the legal and other aspects of the proposal and will constructively engage with our U.S. and European partners going forward.
We will continue to strongly advocate for preserving and strengthening the transatlantic relationship and for advancing the cause of peace in the Middle East and beyond,” Plenković said.
