21 Conway Street, London W1T 6BN

Opening hours: Mondays to Fridays 11:00 a.m. to 15:00 p.m.

This exhibition, which is the second event of  Welcome Croatia Festival, is a result of a yearlong competition initiated by Gordana Johnson. It was launched at the Croatian Embassy at the opening of her photographic show. We are delighted that the entries came from enthusiastic photographers of all ages: the youngest one is only 8 years old, and of course, we are not going to mention the oldest one. You will be looking at images of professional photographers, students of photography, but also of amateurs. We do not know the nationalities of all our contributors, but here are some examples: an Englishman living in Dubrovnik, a lady from Cyprus photographed her sister, who got married in Croatia, a photographer from Canada, one from France and several from Croatia.

As a result we have an exciting exhibition of prints short-listed for a prize. The jury met on the 4th of January and did not have an easy task. It was not easy to decide the winner among those who have sent their images via FLICKR, not any other way. Because there are so many excellent images of Croatia as a country of beautiful landscapes, sea and rivers, of sunsets captured in summer and in winter, interesting details and happy memories of important events. But the jury finally decided that the image” Fun in the Waves” by Vera Stevens, showing a young couple rushing into the warm and sparkling sea, had the strongest message, full of positive energy:

“Welcome to Croatia!”

This exhibition is a result of a dedicated team work: Gordana Johnson, Peter Elborn and Flora Turner on behalf of the British Croatian Society, and the contributors from the Croatian Embassy were Ana Marija Žuvan helping with the catalogue and we had an enthusiastic technical support from Pero Hajdić and Slobodan Šiljeg.
