Croatia is the number one destination in the world for Austrians, according to the Austrian National Auto-moto Club, the Croatian Tourist Board reported on Thursday.

According to the research which took place in March and April this year where more than 800 people were questioned, Croatia was the number one tourist destination for Austrians. In second place was Italy, whilst Spain was the third choice. 18% of Austrians preferred to holiday in their own country.

“Ahead of the main part of the tourist year, this is great news for Croatian tourism. We are pleased that we are the number one tourist destination for Austrians. With this, which is an extremely important market, Austrians spent nearly eight million overnights annually. This is another confirmation of our targeted and highly acclaimed marketing campaigns and PR activities in this market, especially for the pre and post season, “said Croatian tourist board director Kristjan Staničić.

So far in 2018, a total of 440,000 Austrians have visited Croatia creating 1.8 million overnight stays, which is 6% more than in the same period last year.
