ZAGREB, 24 December 2019 – The Croatian football team will be based at St Andrews on Scotland’s east coast during Euro 2020, the Croatian Football Federation confirmed today.
The Croatian Football Federation delegation visited several potential camps around London and Scotland in early December, and after a detailed analysis, the federation’s leadership, headed by President Davor Suker, decided in agreement with coach Zlatko Dalic that the Croatian team would be based at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews during Euro 2020.
A five-star luxury resort, Fairmont is set in an idyllic greenery setting on the Scottish coast, with 212 rooms, 17 suites and two additional villas. The hotel is about 120 kilometers from Glasgow, where Croatia will play two group games at Euro 2020, and is only half an hour’s drive from the airport.
The World Cup runners-up will also train at the St Andrews University grounds, which have hosted the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United, among others. The training grounds are a 10-minute drive from the hotel and also have excellent conditions for training (fitness) and recovery, as well as leisure.
“We wanted the national team to have the absolute best conditions to stay during Euros, which is why we decided on St Andrews. We know from Russia the importance of having peace, nature and quality sports infrastructure, so we have chosen the hotel and grounds that are of the highest standard. that this is the best solution for the national team, “said HNS president Davor Suker.
“I thank the federation for truly analysing and presenting all the options, and I am glad that we were absolutely in agreement that this was the best solution for the national team to stay at during Euros. We had great conditions in Russia and I believe that will be the case in Scotland. The camp is very important not only for training but also for creating a positive atmosphere and community, and this location offers us excellent conditions for all that,” coach Zlatko Dalic added.
