Croatia is currently implementing the most comprehensive demographic policies in Europe, aimed at strengthening families and encouraging higher birth rates, the Minister of Demography and Immigration, Ivan Šipić, stated.

“Croatia is the only country in Europe carrying out such strong and wide-ranging demographic measures. We have invested more than half a billion euros to support parenthood, ensure the safety of motherhood, and care for children. For the first time in many years, we are seeing an increase in the number of newborns,” the Minister said.

In the last four months alone, 656 more children were born compared to the same period last year, a sign, he noted, that the measures are beginning to show positive results.

The Minister underlined that the goal is to create a long-term, secure environment for families through financial assistance, housing support, healthcare, and the development of local communities.

He also highlighted ongoing initiatives to encourage young Croatians living abroad to return home.

“Money alone does not bring children into the world. What we need is an atmosphere of security, stability, and hope. That is why we are investing in communities, in young families, and in ensuring they choose to stay in Croatia,” he added.

The Minister announced that government support will continue for programmes encouraging small business start-ups and settlement in smaller towns and rural areas, including loans of up to €150,000 with the possibility of partial debt forgiveness.
