The Croatian Government has expressed deep concern following overnight airstrikes by the United States on nuclear facilities in Iran, urging restraint and the pursuit of diplomacy to avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković addressed the situation on Sunday in a statement shared on social media platform X.
“Following last night’s U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, the Croatian Government expresses deep concern over the risk of an uncontrollable spiral of war in the Middle East.
We call on Iran to exercise restraint and to abandon its ambitions to acquire nuclear weapons.
Regional instability threatens international security, risks major disruptions to global energy flows, and could trigger broader destabilisation with far-reaching global consequences.
Dialogue and negotiations must be at the centre of collective action,” the Prime Minister wrote.
The statement comes after US President Donald Trump confirmed a large-scale military operation targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure had been carried out.
According to US officials, three key sites – Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan – were “obliterated” in the operation, which involved 125 aircraft, including seven B-2 stealth bombers.
Iranian authorities confirmed that the sites had been struck but denied that the damage was significant. Meanwhile, Israel stated that the operation was carried out in full coordination with the United States.
