Croatia has taken a major step forward in strengthening transport links in eastern Slavonia with the signing of a €17.5 million contract for the construction of the Požega interchange on the A3 motorway.

The contract was signed in Požega on Friday, 6 February 2026, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković, Požega-Slavonia County Prefect Antonija Jozić and Brod-Posavina County Prefect Danijel Marušić.

The agreement was concluded between Croatian Motorways (HAC) and the selected contractors, Strabag d.o.o. and Osijek-Koteks d.d. The total value of the works is €17,542,833.61, excluding VAT.

The Požega interchange forms a key part of the wider fast road project linking the A3 motorway with the city of Požega.

This strategic road connection is being developed jointly by Croatian Motorways and Croatian Roads, based on an agreement signed in 2018. Under the arrangement, HAC is responsible for the construction of the interchange, while the remaining sections of the fast road fall under Croatian Roads.

Minister Butković described the project as a crucial milestone in completing the Brestovac Požeški–Godinjak fast road, a €160 million investment that currently represents the largest road infrastructure project underway in Croatia.

Once completed, the interchange will provide full traffic functionality, significantly improving accessibility for Požega and surrounding communities. Construction of the interchange and two access roads is expected to be completed within two years.

The project includes around 1.4 kilometres of connecting road and the construction of seven major structures, including two overpasses, one spanning the A3 motorway and another crossing a railway line, making it a technically demanding undertaking.

Beyond the Požega interchange, the government confirmed continued investment in regional infrastructure, including plans for new fast roads such as Pleternica–Požega, Čaglin–Pleternica–Našice and Daruvar–Lipik, as well as major upgrades to railway infrastructure in the region.

Local leaders emphasised that the project will strengthen economic development, improve road safety and reinforce regional connectivity, underlining Croatia’s ongoing commitment to balanced regional growth and modern transport infrastructure.
