ZAGREB, 17 June (Hina) – The total circulation of general-interest daily newspapers in Croatia amounted to 20.82 million copies last year, falling by a 14% from 2024, and total circulation of general-interest weeklies reached around 1.36 million copies, down 17%, the Croatian Competition Agency (AZTN) said on Tuesday.
The regular market survey of the Croatian press sector conducted by AZTN covered 29 companies, including 24 newspaper publishers of general-interest dailies and weeklies, as well as five distributors and specialised retail press sellers.
The study shows that 2025 continued a long-term downward trend in circulation for both daily and weekly general-interest newspapers.
In 2022, the circulation of all general-interest dailies stood at 32.95 million copies, which is around 12 million more than in 2025. In the same year, weekly newspapers sold 1.86 million copies, nearly half a million more than in 2025.
According to the survey, the best-selling daily newspaper in 2025 was 24sata, a a daily tabloid newspaper published in Zagreb, while the most widely sold general-interest weekly was Hrvatski tjednik, a political newspaper published in Zadar.
