ZAGREB, 30 September 2026 – Croatia has issued a new commemorative €2 coin featuring Vukovar, with the special issue attracting interest from collectors and members of the public.

The Croatian National Bank (HNB) is issuing up to 500,000 coins as part of its “Croatian Cities” series.

The national side features Vukovar’s water tower and the Danube, two prominent symbols associated with the eastern Croatian city.

The design was created by academic sculptor Duje Matetić.

The coin entered circulation on 21 September 2026.

Of the total issue, 490,000 coins are being produced in standard uncirculated quality, while 5,000 are being produced in high-relief minting quality and another 5,000 as proof-quality coins.

The commemorative coin has the same nominal value as a standard €2 coin.

For members of the public wishing to obtain examples through the HNB exchange system, pre-registration is open until 5 October 2026, subject to the available quantity.

Each person can register to exchange up to five coins.

The Croatian Mint said the coins can be exchanged at face value rather than at a premium through the designated process.

From 9 November, people with confirmed registrations will be able to collect the coins at the HNB in Zagreb, through postal delivery within Croatia or at designated Fina branches.

A temporary HNB counter is also planned in Vukovar on 10 November, allowing registered residents and visitors to collect the coin in the city itself.

Vukovar was selected because of its historical and cultural significance, while the water tower has become one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks.

The new coin follows other Croatian commemorative €2 issues that have attracted attention among collectors since Croatia adopted the euro in 2023.
