Croatia marking European Mobility Week, World Ozone Day

ZAGREB, Sept 16 (Hina) – This week, Croatia is marking European Mobility Week and World Ozone Day, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development said on Wednesday.

This year’s European Mobility Week, held under the slogan “Zero-Emission Mobility for All”, reflects the ambitious goal of making Europe a carbon-neutral continent by 2050, the ministry said.

European Mobility Week is a European initiative encouraging small and big cities to introduce and promote sustainable modes of transport and alternatives to car transport.

A no-car day, the central event of European Mobility Week will be held on September 22.

World Ozone Day, observed on September 16, will this year be marked under the slogan “Ozone for Life”.

Recalling the documents that have contributed to preserving the ozone layer, the 1985 Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer and the 1987 Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer, the ministry calls for continuing activities aimed at helping the ozone layer recover.

“Experts estimate that the natural balance between the production and destruction of ozone will be established around 2050. Croatia, together with other signatories to the Montreal Protocol, actively participates in raising awareness of the importance of the ozone layer for life on Earth and the importance of not using substances that damage it,” the ministry says.
