Historic Kurija Mihalović opens new luxury chapter in Slavonia

As more travellers look beyond crowded coastal resorts in search of authentic experiences, a historic estate in eastern Croatia is offering a different vision of luxury tourism.

Located in Feričanci, a small Slavonian town beneath Mount Krndija, Heritage Hotel Kurija Mihalović combines history, wine, gastronomy and nature in a restored late-Baroque manor dating from the 18th century.

The estate, which has been carefully renovated, preserves the character of the former noble residence while introducing modern comfort.

High ceilings, original architectural details, spacious salons and historic elements remain central to the design, while contemporary interiors provide a discreet modern setting.

The project was developed by NEXE d.d., with company president Josip Ergović highlighting the importance of preserving the identity of the region.

“We believe the greatest value lies in places that have a soul, and our goal was to preserve that soul and bring it closer to guests,” Ergović said.

Named after the former owners, the Mihalović noble family, the property reflects the history of a region where estates once played an important role in cultural and economic life.

Designed as an intimate boutique hotel, Kurija Mihalović features five rooms and one apartment, including a private panoramic viewpoint. The concept focuses on privacy and personalised experiences rather than large-scale hospitality.

Guests can enjoy a wellness area with a swimming pool, saunas, steam bath, relaxation spaces and treatments inspired by local wine traditions.

Wine is a central part of the experience, with a wine archive of Enosophia winery located in the estate’s cellar.

Visitors can explore the flavours of Slavonian terroir through tastings connected to the region’s long winemaking tradition.

Surrounded by vineyards, forests and the natural landscapes of Krndija and nearby Papuk, Feričanci is increasingly positioning itself as a destination for visitors seeking cycling, gastronomy, wine tourism and outdoor experiences away from Croatia’s busiest summer locations.
