As the conflict escalates between Israel and Iran, Croatia’s Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs has initiated the evacuation of Croatian nationals from Iran.
The situation remains volatile, and the safety of citizens and embassy staff remains the government’s top concern, Foreign Minister Gordan Grlić Radman said on X today.
“The evacuation of Croatian citizens from Iran is currently underway. The Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, as well as myself personally, are in constant, round-the-clock contact with our embassy in Tehran and with embassies across the Middle East.
The situation is unpredictable, and the safety of our citizens and embassy personnel is our absolute priority. In close coordination with EU member states, we are doing everything we can to protect our people.
We have evacuated our consul from Israel, and our embassy in Tel Aviv is now operating with essential staff only. Similarly, the number of diplomats in Iran has been reduced to the necessary minimum. We continue to closely monitor developments on the ground,” he said.
The Ministry has not released further details on the number of citizens being evacuated or the timeframe, citing security concerns.
However, sources confirm that Croatia is cooperating with EU partners to ensure safe and swift evacuations where necessary.
Israel attacked Iran’s nuclear sites with air strikes last week. Iran fought back by firing missiles at Tel Aviv and other places. The fighting is still going on, and the U.S. might join Israel to attack Iran.
Croatian citizens in the region are advised to stay in close contact with their nearest embassy and follow official guidance.
