Croatia’s representatives for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, the group Lelek, have released the official music video for their entry Andromeda, which will be performed in Vienna this May.
The video has already been presented to the wider Eurovision community and has quickly attracted reactions from international fans online.
Many have praised both the song’s powerful vocals and the striking visual identity of the performance.
Among the early responses are predictions that Croatia could achieve a strong result at the competition.
Visually, the video for “Andromeda” creates a ritual-like atmosphere. Set in a dark, misty forest, the members of Lelek appear in white dresses, marked by distinctive tattoos on their hands and faces.
Inspired by historical traditions
“Andromeda” is intended as more than just a competition entry. The group describe the song as a tribute to female resilience, collective memory and cultural identity passed through generations.
Its inspiration comes partly from the experiences of Catholic women in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the period of Ottoman rule.
One of the key motifs in both the song and the video is sicanje, a traditional practice in which Croatian Catholics in parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Dalmatia tattooed crosses on their skin.
These tattoos served as a mark of identity and protection, particularly during times of oppression or the threat of forced conversion. In the video, the tattoos are not merely decorative but a central symbol within the story.
Musically, “Andromeda” blends cinematic ethno-pop elements with dramatic builds and powerful vocals, drawing on historical and cultural themes from the region while delivering a contemporary sound.
The Eurovision Song Contest will take place in Vienna from 12 to 16 May.
Croatia has competed in the contest 30 times since its debut in 1993. The country’s best result came in 2024 when Baby Lasagna finished second with the hit Rim Tim Tagi Dim.
