Croatia invites diaspora nominations for government advisory council representative

ZAGREB, 23 February 2026 (Hina) – The Središnji državni ured za Hrvate izvan Hrvatske (Central State Office for Croats Abroad) has issued a public call to non-governmental organisations engaged in fostering relations with the Croatian diaspora to nominate a representative for membership in the Government’s advisory council for Croats living outside the country.
The invitation is open to NGOs whose work actively promotes cooperation and ties with Croatian communities abroad. Proposals must be submitted no later than 27 February 2026.
The Savjet za Hrvate izvan Hrvatske (Advisory Council for Croats Abroad) consists of 65 appointed members, including one representative from the NGO sector. Members are appointed for a four-year term.
The Council plays a key consultative role, assisting the Croatian Government in shaping and implementing policies, activities and programmes relating to Croats living abroad. Its work is considered central to maintaining strong institutional links with Croatia’s extensive global diaspora.
Application Process
Interested NGOs must submit their proposals using the official application form available on the website of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad.
In addition to the completed form, applicants are required to provide a certificate from the competent court confirming that no criminal proceedings are being conducted against the proposed candidate.

Appointment Timeline
The NGO representative will be appointed by State Secretary Zvonko Milas within 30 days of the application deadline, meaning the appointment is expected by the end of March 2026.
