ZAGREB, 27 May 2026 – Citizens in Croatia will be able to access the country’s new Central Population Register (SRS) from 1 June, with the system set to become the official basis for accessing social and other rights from 1 January 2027.
The register will be available for public access through the e-Građani system or in person at local Tax Administration offices.
Citizens will be able to review their personal information and, if necessary, request corrections or updates.
The Central Population Register is an electronically managed database designed to combine key population data from existing official records into a single digital system.
Croatian authorities say the aim is to improve the efficiency of public administration, reduce bureaucracy and provide faster access to public services.
The register contains information on the population of Croatia, including demographic, educational, employment, migration and housing data. It also includes information on households and family relationships.
Data in the register is gathered from existing state databases and official records. This includes personal identification numbers (OIB), names, addresses, education, employment status, insurance information and housing data.
A separate section of the register will include information voluntarily provided by citizens, such as details about unmarried partnerships or informal unions, as well as ethno-cultural information including religion, mother tongue and nationality.
Contact information may also be included on a voluntary basis.
The register covers Croatian citizens living in Croatia and abroad who have an OIB, as well as foreign nationals with registered residence or temporary residence in Croatia.
Authorities estimate the system includes data on around 5.64 million people.
Officials say the system is intended to provide more accurate and up-to-date data for state institutions and support more efficient policymaking and administrative procedures.
The government says the introduction of the register should reduce the need for citizens to repeatedly submit the same documents, while also improving transparency, digital access and the delivery of public services.
From 1 January 2027, all state administration bodies and the Croatian Government will be able to use the register as an official data source in administrative and economic policy processes.
Further information and access to the register are available via the official government portal – registar-stanovnistva.gov.hr.
