Croatia among world’s 20 safest countries in 2025

Croatia has once again been recognised as one of the world’s safest countries, according to the 2025 Global Peace Index.

In the latest report just released, Croatia ranks 19th out of 163 countries assessed.

While this is a slight drop from 15th place last year, it remains a strong result that reflects the country’s continued stability, safety and peaceful living environment.

The Global Peace Index, compiled by the Institute for Economics and Peace, evaluates countries using 23 indicators across three key areas: societal safety and security, ongoing domestic and international conflict, and militarisation.

The 2025 edition covers 99.7 per cent of the world’s population.

Despite a slight global decline in peacefulness — down 0.36 per cent overall — many of the top-ranking countries have maintained or improved their positions.

The Index also highlights countries that lead the way specifically in the area of societal safety and security. Nations such as Iceland, Norway, Finland, Japan and Singapore scored particularly well here, thanks to low crime rates, political stability and efficient institutions.

Croatia’s solid performance in the 2025 Global Peace Index reinforces its reputation as not only a top tourist destination, but also a safe and secure place to live and visit.
