Croatia Airlines, the Croatian national flag carrier and a member of the Star Alliance, today welcomed its third new Airbus A220-300 aircraft at Zagreb Airport.

The 149-seat aircraft is part of the airline’s ongoing fleet renewal programme, which began last year with the introduction of the first two Airbus A220-300s.

The newest aircraft, registered as 9A-CAL and named Vukovar, arrived directly from Airbus’s manufacturing facility in Mirabel, Canada.

It is the first of three A220-300s to be delivered to Croatia Airlines by leasing company Azorra under an agreement with Airbus.

“We are delighted and proud to welcome our third new Airbus A220, named after the heroic Croatian city of Vukovar,” said Jasmin Bajić, CEO of Croatia Airlines.

“Each new aircraft—five of which are expected this year—enables us to expand our route network and optimise flight schedules. This season, we’ve introduced five new international routes, contributing further to the development of Croatian tourism and the national economy. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our partners at Azorra, the lessor of the Vukovar, and Airbus for their excellent cooperation. We believe this is a proud moment for all involved.”

The Airbus A220 is a next-generation aircraft designed as an entirely new product, offering superior performance in fuel efficiency and noise reduction.

Thanks to its innovative design and cutting-edge technology, the A220 provides an outstanding experience for both crew and passengers. Targeted at the 100–160 seat market segment, the aircraft has a maximum range of 3,600 nautical miles (approximately 6,700 kilometres).

Croatia Airlines plans to receive five new A220s in 2025 alone, with the full fleet renewal project set for completion by 2027.

By then, the carrier’s fleet will consist of 15 brand-new Airbus A220 aircraft—13 of the larger A220-300 model (149 seats) and two of the A220-100 variant (127 seats).
