Croatia has taken another step in strengthening its transport infrastructure with the signing of a major motorway construction contract in the Kvarner region.

During a visit to Primorje-Gorski Kotar County on Friday, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković attended the signing of a €150 million agreement for the construction of the Križišće–Jadranovo subsection of the A7 motorway in nearby Kraljevica.

The project, worth more than €150 million, was signed between Hrvatske autoceste CEO Boris Huzjan and GP KRK CEO Sanjin Purić.

The 5.2-kilometre section forms part of the wider A7 motorway project connecting Križišće and Žuta Lokva, which will serve as a key transport link between the northern Adriatic and the rest of Croatia.

Plenković said the project, together with the completion of the Istrian Y motorway between Učka and Matulji, will finalise the full motorway profiles of key transport routes passing through Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.

This will make the region one of the best connected parts of Croatia.

The Prime Minister emphasised that improved connectivity will support economic growth and development across the Kvarner region.

“In this way it will become a generator of further economic development,” he said.

Plenković also noted that Croatia is connected to four Trans-European transport corridors, presenting significant opportunities for economic expansion and regional integration.
