Croat San Pedro win Croatian World Football Club Championships in Zagreb

ZAGREB, 29 June 2019 – SC Croat San Pedro from the United States have won the 4th Croatian World Football Club Championships which ended in Zagreb on Friday.  

Organised by the Croatian Football Federation in cooperation with the Croatian Heritage Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, the Croatian World Club Championships are held every 4 years for Croatian clubs in the diaspora. 

In Friday’s final, which took place at NK Sesvete’s Sv. Josip Radnik stadium, SC Croat San Pedro got the better of Croatia Toronto from Canada in a penalty shoot-out. 

After the score was locked at 2:2 (Anđelo Srzentić, Skaga Lehland / Jure Glavina, Pero Menalo), the match would be decided by penalties. SC Croat San Pedro goalkeeper Luka Gavran was the hero as his side won the shoot-out 4:3. 

Defending champions NK Pajde Möhlin from Switzerland took third place after beating Vojvođanski Hrvata from Serbia 8-0 (Igor Prijić 3, Antonio Marić 2, Niko Jović, Dino Dizdarević, Jovan Petrović) in the 3rd-4th place match. 

In the 5th-6th place match, Canberra FC from Australia beat SV Slavonija Bern from Switzerland 6:3 (Jason Ugrinić 2, Lucas Mauragis 2, Mate Barišić, Daniel Barac / Branimir Radoš, Ruben Freitas Carballo 2). 

Michael Derežić from SC Croat San Pedro won the player of the tournament award, whilst his teammate Luka Gavran was named goalkeeper of the tournament. 

Top goalscorer of the tournament was Jure Glavina from Croatia Toronto with four goals.  Vojvođanski Hrvata won the fair-play award which was presented by one of the founders of the tournament, Ante Pavlović. 

Head of the Central State Office for Croats Abroad, Zvonko Milas, presented the winners the trophy.
