Cold Does Not Stop Traditional New Year’s Day Swim Across Croatia

sibenikDespite the coldest start to a new year in a long time, swimmers up and down Croatia’s coast were not deterred with many going for the traditional New Year’s Day dip today…

Strong bura winds and just 6 degree temperatures did not put off those in Šibenik who braved the elements to go for the traditional New Year’s Day swim on the stroke of 12:00pm, a tradition which was also respected on Thursday in Split, Dubrovnik, Opatija, Pula, and other destinations on the coast.

“It was colder than last year, the bura made it cold,” one of the brave swimmers in Šibenik told Croatian radiotelevision.
