It was obvious that things were not right with Marin Čilić last night as he was hammered by world number one Novak Đoković in 85 minutes in the semi-final of US Open on Friday in New York…

Čilić was painful to watch as he could only take 3 games off an in-form Đoković in his 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 loss, and after the match the Croatian explained part of the reason behind the heavy defeat.

“Obviously I was not fit. I was thinking whether to play the match or not just before it, but I decided to play because it was a Grand Slam. If it was another tournament I would probably not have played,” said the defending champion, who rolled his ankle before his quarter final match with Jo Wilfred Tsonga.

Đoković now meets Roger Federer, who was just as convincing in his semi final win over Stan Wawrinka, in Sunday’s final.
