It was confirmed today that 16.3 million tourists visited Croatia in 2016, creating a new annual record.
Croatia’s popularity as a destination has dramatically been on the rise over the last few years, making ‘must-visit’ guides in leading travel publications around the globe.
Croatia also came on the radar in 2016 for the celebrity set. Whilst some preferred to fly under the radar and keep there visit secret, others were happy to gloat to their fans.
Here are some of the celebrities who were spotted enjoying Croatia in 2016.
Hollywood star Brad Pitt was snapped going for a stroll in early September in the Dalmatian coastal town of Šibenik. He spent 2 days in Croatia and visited Zadar and Zablaće where he was looking at investment interests.
Bono Vox joined fellow U2 band members The Edge and Adam Clayton in Cavtat, near Dubrovnik in August as the band celebrated The Edge’s birthday. Bono was also blown away by a Croatian chef at Laganini Lounge bar on Palmižana near the island of Hvar.
Legally Blonde and Monsters vs. Aliens star Reese Witherspoon went sailing along the Adriatic coast with her close friends in August.
Ricky Martin was spotted strolling around the capital in July. He was reportedly catching up with friends during his stay. The Livin la vida loca star took to social media to let his fans know how much of a good time he had.
British musician Sir Cliff Richard (75) was happy to pose for photographers in Dubrovnik in October when he visited.
Black Eyed Peas
Black Eyed Peas members Will.I.Am, Apl.de.Ap and Taboo Nawasha were holidaying on board a boat on the Croatian coast in August.
Former The Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger joined her friends from The Black Eyed Peas in Croatia for a summer vacation in August. Scherzinger, who was voted by FHM as one of the sexiest women in the world, was not shy to document her holiday to her 2.6 million Instagram followers.
Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka (34) was spotted in Dubrovnik with her husband Jared Kushner in August. She also posted a photo from Dubrovnik with her friend Wendi Deng Murdoch, the ex-wife of billionaire media mogul Rupert Murdoch, on social media.
Diego Maradona visited Croatia in November to watch the Davis Cup final between Argentina and Croatia.
Sergio Ramos was just one of the many famous footballers to spend the summer break in Croatia. The Spanish international was taken around the Croatian coast by Real Madrid team mate Luka Modrić.
